Why are you pursuing design?

I am pursuing design for a couple of reasons. For starts, it's a part of me "leaving" something behind so to speak. In example the greatest artists that we know today are all long gone (Michael Angelo for example). It is in my hopes that I will eventually to develop a product or company branding that will carry on through the years. So I suppose it would be my lust for "fame" that pushes me to do what I do. Another reason why I am pursuing a degree in Design is knowledge for computers. I have a somewhat controlling personality when it comes to my professional life. Computers were built as a tool to help society, not something that one should feel like the have to trick it into doing what they want. With Design and Computers both on my side I can manipulate my pieces in such a way that stands out from other traditional forms of art. I feel as though I can be the future in what other designers aspire to be, not just another pseudo rich kid with too much time on his hands.

Beyond making a living, what do you hope to achieve through design?

It's Simple.... Creativity

Other than the typical, "Oh just to make a living", I use Designing as a way to express my creativity. All forms of art, no matter how small, are an extension of one's soul. With that in mind, as an artist, I strive to produce the purest forms of my work. Detail Oriented and Results Driven are more than mere explanations of one's work ethic in my book, they are what each of us should strive for not only in our professional lives but our everyday lives as well.

Why am I pursuing Design?
I'm pursuing design because I enjoy the idea of creation, and majoring in it allows me to explore various means for expressing myself and sharing that ability with the world.
Beyond making a living, what do I hope to achieve?
I want to inspire someone to do something they have no idea how to do. I want people to see me and think that ignorance is not a legitimate reason for failure, and that ignorance can be changed into knowledge. It's really conceited, but I believe in the power of persistence.
What inspires you to design?
I love the feeling I get when I'm inspired to try and create things from scratch, like sewing jackets or making pop-up books. I love that no matter how clueless I start out a project, by the time I'm finished I'm usually pleased with the result. It's a statement of the human condition that a person can literally teach themselves to do anything, and I love the poetic nature of that idea.
What relevance does design have in the world?
It's like the guy in the video said, even something as small as a toothbrush has a design to it. Design is part of our everyday lives, whether it's applied to commodoties, nicetys, accessories, or necessities, there's always a design that makes the object function or fail to function.
http://www.deviantart.com/ It might be trite and it usually gets a bad rap, but this is the first site I ever used to share myself and my work with the world. There's always people with great skill posting things that'll blow your brain, and the community is generally supportive of all skill levels, allowing and encouraging the growth of the artist.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Again, mainstream and teachers usually hate it. BUT! It's a great source for information when all you want is a general idea of what something is or how it works or what movie someone's been in etc. And for a society that is delving deeper and deeper into what is now the necessity of the internet, an online encyclopedia is an excellent tool in broadening your knowledge pool.
http://www.google.com/ Okay. So I'm obviously one of the most unoriginal people in the world, but I do google. If it's not on Wiki, it's definitely googleable, and YES there are search engines that are better and YES there are things wrong with it, but seriously. It pretty much changed the way people use the internet, and made information more accessible to people in general.

Why you are pursuing design?

I am pursuing design because I am intrigued about the artistic medium and the endless possibilities it can create. I have been in the printing industry for 20 years and I was in awe when I saw my first augmented reality clip. I can see countless applications for this technology and how print media can be converged with virtual media

Beyond making a living, what do you hope to achieve through design?

I hope to produce some really cool, forward thinking designs that bring print/art and virtual reality together.

What inspires you to design!

The idea that I can create something that someone else might find thought provoking or become connected with gives me a sense of fulfillment and gratification.

What is it relevance to your life and world around you?

I feel as if everything around us is looked at unconsciously and consciously for it's design aesthetics and is subsequently judged in a matter that brings out some type of emotion. My views, judgements, purchases etc. are all swayed by my perception on how I see those things.

Why are you pursuing design?
When i first began college I had a very different viewpoint than I do today. I thought college was all about setting your future up to make a lot of money in life (which can be true). So I chose to pursue business. But after only one semester at business school I thought to myself, "I don't like this shit, so why am I here?". I realized that I am a creative thinker and didn't care about making millions doing something I would probably hate. So I'm beginning a path that i find more suitable for myself. This path may not be limited to design, seeing as I have a huge passion for film, but I believe design will let that creative blood flood.
Beyond making a living, what do you hope to achieve through design?
I hope it allows me to travel. Working at a design firm would be cool but I would rather explore the world, rather than just watching the National Geographic channel. I don't know if there is a design position like that, but I'm going to try.
What inspires you to design?
Bad design inspires me to design. In fact, I think that's what made designers start designing. They saw something they didn't like and they wanted to make it better.
What is the relevance of your life and the world around you?
The simple answer is that I just live in it. I eat it, I breathe it, I kill it. We all do.

I don't necessarily plan on making a living with design but rather use it as a tool in order to communicate important information and concepts to people who may not have the advantage of learning it for themselves. I am actually going to use my knowledge of design to better educate the rest of the world whether it be designing posters or using it to create bold installations to get the attention of others.

The main inspiration that led to my desire to design is my recent knowledge of the collective unconscious. Withing the past couples years I have become extremely aware of everything in my surroundings and a lot of the time I don't really enjoy what i see. I analyze the reason for why everything is and my greatest goal is to expose and motivate more people to question why they do anything in their life. A great deal of people lead lives a certain way because they don't know anything else and to inspire others to think and create a better existence would be more than rewarding.

Design has significant relevance to literally everything I do. We are all exposed to certain mindsets that actually block our ability to see what is actually true creating a brainwashed collective conscious. When knowledge is found, it seems only right to share it with the rest of the world and design is one of, if not, THE most effective way of communicating that knowledge. If more people took the time to think no matter how insignificant it may seem to them, this world wouldn't be so polluted with ignorant beliefs and our existence would be productive instead of detrimental.

This is a magazine that I go through for ideas about art and just has truly amazing art and concepts.

This is a collage artist I'm following and he is actually one of my favorite collage artists of all time. He expresses a really unique perspective of the world and new ways to view everyday environments as something more.

This is just a trailer for a movie but it's all about existence and questioning it and basically will make you think about really mind blowing concepts you may not have come across for yourself. The rotoscope gets kind of trippy and annoying to me personally but it's WELL worth watching the whole movie.

1) I'm pursuing design mostly to diversify my skill set as an artist. There was a time when I was heavy into picking up hand-drawn illustration. However, digital rendering came much more naturally to me.

2) Outside of making a living, I'd like to venture into designing and constructing installations. I've always had a fascination with installations whether they were projections, sculptures, interactive media, or a mix of the aforementioned. I think they're an interesting way to change landscapes.

3) Honestly, my biggest inspiration to design comes from writing. I was originally trying to make it, more or less, as a writer. However, when it came to communicating my ideas I couldn't quite capture my imagination in words. When I picked up Illustrator and InDesign I found it much easier to demonstrate my ideas to others.

4) Design shapes the world around us. That wasn't something I fully realized until coming to college and studying design. I fell in love with the idea that everything around us is designed. Whether it's a newspaper, a soda can, or packaging materials for a set of speakers, someone sat down and put thought into that particular layout and appearance. A chance to be a part of that community, I think, gives you a leg up on making a difference and leaving your mark in the world.

1. I am pursuing design because I love making new innovative things, with or without actual use. I really enjoy textiles and hands- on projects, and with the age we are at in the world, digital aspects are also great to know in up and coming workforces.
2. I hope to achieve pure happiness in life by creating and designing art that I can surround myself and my family with. I feel making a living isn't just affording life and the cost of living, but to fully enjoy what I make and create.
3. I find my inspiration from all things in my everyday life, whether it be actions, feelings I experience, or all other forms of intelligence intake, I gain bits of artist advice of how to design and create better and bigger than before. I find I take everything home with me and sift out excess knowledge later, while keeping whats important close to my mind and utilizing it in design.
4. My life as a whole, I feel, has relevance to everything I do, eat, say, or think. Adding design to my life makes me feel complete and like I have a purpose in this world. With art I can truly express myself and other people can understand where I am coming from as well.

Why are you pursuing design?
I am pursuing design to help patients understand why they are at a hospital. There is a reason why doctors go through pre-med, fours years of medical school and then several more years of an internship. Medicine is hard to understand, I want to design so that patients can fully understand and become confident in what is going on with their body. Surgery is a scary thing, and if a doctor can explain the operation or other treatments visually, that patient's stress will reduce, they will become informed and have a better sense of control.

Beyond making a living, what do you hope to achieve through design?
I hope to make innovative things. I want to cross different fields like biology and psychology, with design. The possibilities of design are not just in art, and I believe that design can make everything clearer and easier to learn. To be more specific, I hope to achieve communicating the incredible functions of the human body to any education level.

What inspires you to design?
I am inspired to design for the shallow purpose of making things beautiful. However, making things pretty is truly not a shallow task, since what you are trying to do is to expand ideas. Things like making data better to understand using color, illustrating an article to help get the story across, of combining design with function to improve technology.

What is the relevance of your life and the world around you?
What a deep philosophical question! I think this answer changes with age. For example, when I was 6, the relevance of my life was climbing that tree higher than my brother. Right now, the relevance of my life is to become as educated as I can in several fields and then bring them together somehow, and then, specialize in that unique ideas. I hope to improve the world around me with these "Medici Effect" ideas.

Art History Student Association Kick-Off Event

From the DAM’s website: “On final Fridays in 2011 through October, the Denver Art Museum feels less like a field trip and more like a night out.” The DAM’s on fire with a reprise celebration of all things clay. While a raku kiln heats things up outside, inside you can hear curators talk about extreme uses of clay or join a detour led by a geologist. Finish the evening watching the premiere screening of a collective clay animation creation, projected on the soaring walls of the atrium for all Untitled visitors to see.
Untitled is included with general admission to the museum, which is two-for-one with valid student ID during the event.

Blog Assignment #1

I'm pursuing design because I think that if you have to have a job the rest of your life, it may as well be something fun. I'm excited to learn all that I can and even more excited to contribute. I would do it for free.

I hope to achieve something new and dynamic. I hope to explore, to push myself, and do the best that I can. I want to make people look at the same things in different ways and focus on the interesting within the banal. I want to create beauty. Part of me wishes to communicate, and part of me simply wishes to create for no one but myself. For no good reason. I want to create work that's subtle, and some that is blunt. I want to scare myself and take chances, or sometimes just do what comes naturally and easily. I want to give expression to every facet, the entire range of experience.

I'm inspired to design by the idea that I can actively shape the world around me to reflect my vision. Hubris? Neuroses? Probably.

The idea that I'm taking part in creating reality as opposed to simply enduring it or having it happen to me is very appealing. Maybe I am seeking an illusory way to control chaos, or maybe it's just cathartic to render something that was once only an idea. The thought I most enjoy is learning how to recreate the images that appear from out of nowhere while in between sleep and wakefulness. The ones that are not thought out or devised, but born and presented to me out of the subconscious or collective unconscious if you're a Jung fan. Spontaneous non sequiturs that simply wish to exist. I look forward to interacting with and better understanding myself and the world simultaneously in the process.

The first site I recommend is Green Porno.

http://www.sundancechannel.com/greenporno/

It is a series of short films starring Isabella Rossellini enacting the scientifically accurate mating rituals of various insects. May I recommend Praying Mantis?

The second link I suggest is the Guardian. I use this website just about everyday to check out what's going on around the world-and ironically in my own country, since they often report things that the media here does not.
